Brookly NY Overview The Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately converting audio recordings from hearings, conferences, and meetings into clear, error-free written documents. This role requires high attention to detail, excellent command of English grammar and vocabulary, and the ability to handle specialized terminology related to education and legal proceedings.
Key Responsibilities Listen carefully to audio recordings and transcribe spoken content verbatim into written form. Ensure transcripts are accurate, properly formatted, and free from spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. Review and proofread transcripts for consistency and clarity. Identify and attribute speakers correctly during transcription. Use transcription software and tools efficiently for workflow optimization. Meet deadlines by managing multiple transcription assignments simultaneously.
Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all recorded materials and transcripts. Collaborate with monitoring staff, editors, and project managers to resolve discrepancies. Stay updated on terminology specific to special education, legal terms, and relevant technological tools.
Required Qualifications Proficient in English with strong grammar, spelling, and vocabulary skills. Minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute with high accuracy. Ability to focus for extended periods and maintain attention to detail. Experience with transcription software and basic computer skills. Strong listening skills to accurately capture diverse accents and speech patterns. Prior experience in transcription, preferably in education, legal, or healthcare settings, is preferred.
