Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Our client, a major appliances manufacturer and distributor is seeking a Product Compliance Specialist to support and execute product compliance activities across their imported product lines.
This is a mid-level, individual contributor role responsible for managing certifications, tracking compliance status, resolving non-compliance issues, and responding to retailer and regulatory cases as they arise.
The Product Compliance Specialist will work directly with suppliers, accredited testing laboratories, certification bodies, and retail platforms to ensure products meet applicable safety, energy, and regulatory requirements.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, exceptional organization, and the ability to independently drive compliance execution from start to finish.
A background in electrical safety and prior experience at an accredited testing laboratory is required to effectively review compliance documentation, evaluate test results, and support informed decision-making.
Responsibilities- Execute day-to-day compliance activities to ensure products meet applicable safety, energy, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage compliance status across assigned products, SKUs, and suppliers.
- Ensure required certifications are obtained, maintained, and renewed on time, including UL, NSF, DOE, Energy Star, FCC, and other applicable approvals.
- Review test reports, certifications, listing files, and regulatory documentation for completeness, accuracy, and applicability.
- Work directly with factories and suppliers to collect required compliance documentation and close gaps.
- Coordinate testing, certification, and surveillance activities with accredited laboratories such as UL, Intertek (ITS), Bureau Veritas, SGS, and TÜV.
- Follow up on corrective actions when products fail testing or require design or documentation changes.
- Escalate risks, delays, or unclear test outcomes to management with clear recommendations.
- Maintain a structured, audit-ready compliance tracking system, including:
- Product-level certification and approval status
- Test reports, listing files, and regulatory documentation
- Expiration dates, renewals, and required surveillance testing
- Ensure compliance records are accurate, current, and readily accessible.
- Proactively flag upcoming expirations, missing documentation, and potential compliance risks.
- Support compliance cases with Amazon and other retail platforms, including:
- Product safety documentation requests
- Listing removals, suspensions, or compliance flags
- Reinstatement submissions
- Prepare and submit compliance evidence, corrective action plans, and required responses.
- Track open cases through resolution and escalate urgent or high-risk issues as needed.
- Assist in managing non-compliance incidents, regulatory inquiries, and product safety issues.
- Support recall activities when required, including documentation preparation and coordination with suppliers and retailers.
- Drive root-cause analysis and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Apply electrical safety and laboratory experience to:
- Evaluate test results, inspection findings, and certification decisions
- Identify weak, incomplete, or incorrect compliance evidence
- Support informed decisions on certification and remediation approaches
- While this role does not perform hands-on testing, it requires a strong understanding of testing methods, standards interpretation, and certification workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- 4–8 years of experience in product regulatory compliance, certification, or related roles.
- Prior experience working at a major accredited testing laboratory (e.g., UL, Intertek / ITS, Bureau Veritas, SGS, TÜV) in an electrical safety or compliance-focused role.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical safety standards, certification processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple products and compliance activities simultaneously.
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable handling time-sensitive and high-impact compliance issues.
- Experience supporting Amazon compliance cases or retailer enforcement actions.
- Familiarity with DOE energy efficiency requirements and NSF certifications.
- Experience with imported consumer or commercial electromechanical products.
- Experience working directly with overseas suppliers, particularly manufacturers in Asia.
