Duties Description Clinical Supervision of the nursing staff:
• Provides oversight, guidance and training to ensure tasks and standards are met.
• Orientation/mentoring of new RN2s and RN1s.
• Completes performance evaluations in a timely manner.
• Provides corrective and positive feedback to subordinate staff.
• Identifies staff development needs for training on clinical nursing related topics; and evaluates the effectiveness of in-service education and guidance programs.
• Demonstrates the ability to advocate for individuals' health care needs.
• Interacts with primary, medical specialists, various clinical staff, as necessary.
• Coordinates interviews of RNs/LPNs as requested.
• May interview nursing candidates and participate in orientation programs for new staff and/or other recruitment and hiring processes.
• Provides guidance and training to newly hired RNs/LPNs.
• Maintains established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, Federal and accreditation agency requirements.
Ensures adequate nursing staffing:
• Maintains full responsibility for the allocation of resources by creating well-balanced schedules.
• Develops assignments and daily staffing plans for nursing care; prepares and monitors staffing schedules; and ensure adequate nursing coverage
• Ensures that staff have met requirements for first aid (FA), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other agency-specific required training in concert with nurse educator.
• Conducts regular rounds to agency sites based on operational need (at direction of DON) to ensure coordination and delivery of nursing care.
Coordinates DDSO-wide Hospital Liaison Function:
• Supervises RNs who ensure hospital coordination and contact.
• Supervises admissions and discharge planning activities.
• Addresses concerns relating to an individual's care and discharge planning activities for hospitalizations.
• Serves as liaison to community providers, families, hospitals, and other health care facilities.
Provides technical assistance within the DDSO and voluntary agencies:
• Aids in areas such as recording audit, individual health and safety, infection control and medication administration.
Completes nursing audits at the IRAs/ICF/Day Program:
• Completes record reviews and oversees RN2 in their nursing compliance audit functions. Works closely with DON to review findings and develop a plan of corrective action.
• Identifies problems and/or opportunities for personal and/or nursing department improvement (s) and contributes to the development of an action plan.
Completes assignments designated by the Director of Nursing:
• Assists with development, revision and implementation of nursing/medical DDSO policies and procedures, Plans of Nursing Services, POCAs, etc.
• Completes special assignments designated by the DON.
• Keeps DON informed of issues/concerns.
• Notifies DON of weekly schedules and changes as they occur, using established formats.
Completes other tasks to promote professional development and contribute to the agency:
• Participates in various committees e.g. Medication Error committee, IRC, Direct Support Development Council, Health and Safety, and Safe Patient Handling etc.
• Acts as SME related to nursing/medical documentation in EHR; ensure staff have adequate ongoing training for compliance.
• Represents nursing department at workshops, work groups, etc., when requested.
• Attends and Assists in Nursing Discipline meetings.
• Attends/completes on-line mandated DDSO trainings, as well as available discipline specific training.

Minimum Qualifications Promotion:
Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State and two years of service in any Grade 18 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license; or one year of service in any Grade 20 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license.
Open competitive:
Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and three years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
