Nurse Practitioner needed in Brooklyn-Per-diem position.
Work Hours - Position is per-diem. Availability to cover Saturday 7am-noon as part of per-diem is needed.
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner works as part of a multi-disciplinary care team to provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services to participants. Observe and evaluate participants, perform case histories, conduct physical examinations, and order laboratory tests
Responsibilities
· Evaluate and examine participants, utilizing the clinical history, physical examination and laboratory tests to assess and diagnose medical conditions and determine eligibility for treatment at Crossroads.
· Prescribe medications, teach participants about side effects, and monitor response to prescribed medications
· Provide referrals to and coordinate care with external providers.
· Administer injectable medications
· Collaborate with Medical Director and other clinical staff on treatment matters
· Review and approve treatment plans and treatment plan reviews
· Support the Medical Director in overseeing the work of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses, including medication administration and all aspects of the onsite management of controlled substances
· Provide coverage to dispensing of oral medications for opioid use disorder when needed
· Provide training and education to participants, families and communities focusing on substance use disorder prevention and treatment, pain management and opioid overdose
· Participate in clinical staff meetings, case conferences, and supervisory meetings.
· Provide crisis intervention and first aid in the clinic
· Participate in organization committees as assigned e.g. incident review, compliance.
· Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
· Licensed nurse practitioner in New York State.
· 3+ years' clinical nursing experience and/or 2+ years post-masters clinical nursing experience required.
· Holds DEA registration and DATA-2000 waiver
· Certification to train and certify others in CPR is desired
· Experience in substance use treatment, particularly medication-assisted treatment and opioid treatment programs is strongly preferred.
· Skill in assessing medical conditions, making diagnoses, selecting and providing appropriate treatment.
· Knowledge of pharmaceuticals to treat disease and illnesses, to include a knowledge of the mechanism of action, side effects, toxic nature, and drug interactions of medications;
· Commitment to and experience in working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, people with substance use disorder, and people who are involved, or at risk of involvement, with the legal system.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong computer literacy, including using electronic systems for clinical recordkeeping.
