Responsibilities

Assists the General Manager in managing and coordinating all Transportation, Maintenance, and Road operations in a division. Will serve as the General Manager in his absence. Conducts special projects and studies for the division. Develops and implements policy and procedures in the division and provides executive directions to the Assistant General Managers and other division management on operating and administrative matters.

Ensures departmental compliance with Transit Authority policy and serves as liaison with TA and MTA officials, governmental authorities, public officials, and union officials on all issues relevant to borough operations

Additional Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists the General Manager in the delivery of safe, clean, reliable, and cost-effective bus service in the division through the coordination and direction of all Transportation, Maintenance, and Road operations at all depots within the division. Included in this responsibility is the collection and storage of fare revenue, maintenance material forecasting, and the monitoring of facility safety initiatives.
  • Assists the General Manager in the development and implementation of annual employee and fiscal resource levels, including pick coordination. Will support borough-wide operational plans, strategies, and production/performance goals. Troubleshoot day-to-day operational issues and assist in the direction of strategic planning functions for the division.
  • Assists the General Manager in delivering Labor Relations services throughout the division. Responsibilities include Step I and Step II disciplinary hearings, the identification of areas for initiatives and negotiations, and the implementation of operating procedural changes directly with union officials.
  • Assists the General Manager in managing the operational implementation of capital and operating based depot repair/rehab programs throughout the depots. Helps identify, prioritize, and assist construction forces in depot design, repair, and modernization of employee and operating facility activities. Assists in the coordination of efforts to ensure minimal levels of disruptions to operations.
  • Assists the General Manager in directing the delivery of administrative, clerical and computer support services to all locations. Directs the coordination of joint programs with other divisions (schedules, fare policies, etc.) and outside agencies (DOT, NYPD, Board of Education, etc.). Meets with agency heads and elected officials as needed. Assists in the direction and implementation of unscheduled operations for disasters, constructions, and special events.
Education and Experience

1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Transportation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and twelve (12) years of full-time experience, at least eight (8) of which must have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity.

2. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

  • The ability to formulate plans for the achievement of short and long term goals.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation operations.
