The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic ready to move into a leadership role? Freighter Group, Australasia’s leading supplier of road transport equipment, is looking for a Mechanical Leading Hand to join our Brooklyn team. This is a key role where you will drive excellence in mechanical servicing and repairs while mentoring a high‑performing team.

Your Role & Impact
- Technical Leadership: Perform and oversee mechanical tasks including servicing, repairs, and reconditioning of brakes, suspensions, axles, air systems, and electrical components.
- Workshop Flow: Assist in WIP close‑out, collaborate on complex problem‑solving, and ensure all tasks meet SOP standards.
- Team Mentorship: Lead by example, assist teammates, and foster a collaborative environment with service and sales teams.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure accurate documentation of materials and tasks, and maintain a safe, clean, and organised workspace.
- Safety First: Drive risk assessments, hazard identification, and strict compliance with HSE standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Trade Qualified: A relevant Trade Qualification or equivalent experience is essential.
- Industry
Experience:
Proven background in automotive, heavy vehicle, or transport maintenance, specifically with trailer air systems and brakes. - Leadership Traits: Strong interpersonal skills, accountability, and the ability to communicate effectively with both the team and customers.
