Overview
The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY) seeks a qualified candidate to be its Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer (CDIO). The selected candidate will serve as Associate Commissioner, reporting directly to the Commissioner of the FDNY. The CDIO will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies around fostering an inclusive workplace culture; designing diversity and inclusion efforts agency-wide, with particular focus on the uniformed staff;
serving as a liaison to employee affinity organizations at the FDNY; working with the Department for Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and the Law Department to comply with City diversity requirements. In addition, the candidate will serve as a member of FDNY’s leadership team and will work collaboratively across the agency as well as with city-wide diversity best practice groups to monitor and implement diversity initiatives.
- Lead development and implementation of agency-wide diversity and inclusion strategies.
- Foster an inclusive workplace culture and guide diversity efforts within the uniformed staff.
- Serve as liaison to employee affinity organizations and collaborate with City agencies on diversity compliance.
- Participate in FDNY leadership discussions and coordinate with city-wide diversity practice groups to monitor and drive initiatives.

Preferred Skills- Certifications as a diversity and inclusion, labor relations, or human resources professional are preferred along with memberships in best-practices organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, execute, and measure diversity and inclusion efforts; ability to mobilize, influence, and build consensus among key stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills; experience with laws and regulations related to EEO; familiarity with investigation practices and knowledge of mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
- Professional experience in the military or with a uniformed force is preferred.

Residency RequirementNew York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss residency applicability with the agency representative at the time of interview.
