Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Creative Arts Therapist - Monday - Friday - 9a - 5p, NYU Brooklyn.

Responsibilities
  • Provide creative arts therapy program for pediatric or adult patients in the assigned area under the guidance of the Supervisor or Director.
  • Conduct rounds as part of the Behavioral Rounding Team on inpatients on observation across hospital units.
  • Develop behavioral plans and huddle with staff to support proactive interventions to manage potential behavioral crises and reduce the need for 1:1 options.
  • Assess, plan, and prioritize appropriate creative arts therapy interventions for the assigned patient population.
  • Gather information from team members, patients, families, and medical records to perform assessments and develop care plans aligned with patient strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Plan, organize, and implement individual and group creative arts programs for designated clinical areas, ensuring variety and engagement to meet psychological, cognitive, physical, functional, social, and expressive needs, while adhering to applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions; modify as necessary to achieve goals and improve performance.
  • Comply with departmental, hospital, and external credentialing policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate patient/family relations within patient- and family-centered care; involve families in assessment and interventions and provide education and support as appropriate.
  • Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals and groups; select safe materials and equipment; manage procurement and storage of materials; identify environmental safety hazards and implement preventive measures.
  • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal patient care, safety, and satisfaction; recommend consults/referrals when needs exceed the scope of creative arts therapy.
  • Where applicable, participate in ongoing student and/or volunteer management, program development, and evaluation; develop competencies in teaching, supervising, and providing feedback for students and volunteers.
  • Prioritize, plan, and organize work for timely outcomes; regularly evaluate performance and incorporate feedback; annually develop professional goals with measurable objectives.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills and contribute to hospital and department goals; identify and document activities to maintain current knowledge and certification.
  • Uphold professional ethics and establish therapeutic relationships with clear boundaries; document services provided to patients/families accurately and timely; maintain data collection as required by policy.
Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in Creative Arts Therapy (Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy, or Dance/Movement Therapy). Certification/registration eligible on hire, with certification by the appropriate credentialing organization and LCAT within one year of hire.
