Description

The Violence Prevention Specialist provides a variety of services, under Violence Intervention and Treatment Program, to the community and to patients/families who utilize the inpatient and outpatient medical programs at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, including but not limited to,

  • Participates in prevention initiative as required by funding sources.
  • Develops & maintains relationships with partner organizations for achieving mutually agreed goals.
  • Develops curriculum for training/education for students, community members, and hospital staff.
  • Maintains understanding of needs, expectations and requirements of the program.
  • Completes intake and assessments for new clients to determine eligibility for services.
  • Provides client advocacy, accompaniment to ED or outside agencies, OVS compensation application, referrals & follow ups in order to provide services in a comprehensive and coordinated manners.
  • Monitors program indicators and maintains statistical records required by the grant sources or regulatory agencies.
  • Submits reports and documentation on a timely basis, as required by grant sources and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains case files for every client served under the program.
  • Co-facilitates groups/workshops as a part of the team building process.
  • Provides education and training to the employees, program volunteers, and/or community partner organizations.
  • Provides individual/group/phone/follow up counseling services for victims of abuse.
  • Demonstrates knowledge about science, practice, new developments, and resources relating to program through professional literature, trainings and in-services to improve competency and performance.
  • Reports, promotes and protects patient rights.
  • Organizes and participates in events promoting education/awareness about family violence issues within and outside the organization.
  • Attends & participates in mandatory and/or required meetings.
  • Documents in the medical record according to Departmental policy & procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Uses the technology appropriately in the improvement of systems and work process.
  • Utilizes time effectively in managing organizational priorities.
  • Understands and agrees that work assignments and time schedules are changeable within the scope of services and as per the need of the Program.
  • Performs all other duties as required.

Position Requirements:

  • This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 3 yearsjob-related experience.
  • Desired (not required) criteria include Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, public health or relevant field.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) require

Mon - Fri / 9am - 5pm

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
