PrimaryResponsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
The Tax Credit Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax credit programs, including but not limited to Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and other affordable housing programs. This role is crucial in maintaining the community s tax credit compliance, ensuring proper documentation, and providing excellent service to residents while adhering to regulatory standards.
As a Tax Credit Specialist, your primary responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that the community is in full compliance with all federal, state, and local tax credit program requirements, including Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), Section 42, and other relevant programs.
- Reviewing and verifying the eligibility of prospective and current residents based on income, household size, and other factors per the tax credit program guidelines.
- Collecting, organizing, and maintaining all required documentation for residents in compliance with tax credit regulations. Ensure that resident files are accurate, up-to-date, and complete.
- Preparing and submitting required reports to regulatory agencies, including income certifications, rent calculations, and compliance reports. Maintain accurate resident files and assist with audits.
- Conducting annual recertification for residents, ensuring that all required documentation is obtained and reviewed in accordance with tax credit program rules.
- Acting as a liaison between management and residents regarding tax credit-related matters. Provide information and assistance to residents on eligibility, documentation, and other program details.
- Providing training to property staff on tax credit policies and procedures. Offer guidance on resident eligibility and documentation requirements.
- Remaining current on changes in tax credit laws, rules, and regulations and communicate those changes to property management and residents as needed.
- Supporting the preparation and execution of internal and external audits. Assist in gathering necessary documentation and addressing any discrepancies.
- 4-year college degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in NYC affordable housing or tax credit compliance (LIHTC, Section 8, etc.)
- Knowledge of HUD regulations, tax credit compliance, and fair housing laws is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and property management software (e.g., Yardi, One Site).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- LIHTC certification preferred or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days of starting employment.
This position is eligible for additional bonus opportunities.
Salary Range
$62,000—$65,000 USD
