Financial Manager, CFO
Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit in Brooklyn, is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead all aspects of financial strategy, reporting, and controls for a multi-program human services organization focused on addressing homelessness, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, mental illness, substance abuse, unemployment, and the shortage of affordable housing.
Responsibilities- Own the organization’s overall financial strategy, planning, and analysis
- Lead accounting, payroll, reporting, and internal controls
- Oversee budgeting, budget modifications, and forecasting across all programs
- Manage annual audits, compliance, and financial reporting (including Form 990)
- Review and approve claims to government funders and ensure contract compliance
- Partner closely with the CEO and Board on financial strategy and organizational growth
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
- CPA strongly preferred
- 8–10 years of senior-level financial management experience (nonprofit/human services highly preferred)
- Experience with NYC and NYS government contracts; familiarity with DSS/DHS/HRA a strong plus
- Comfort managing complex funding streams (government, philanthropy, other revenue)
- Proficiency with Excel and nonprofit accounting/payroll systems
- Track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams
