Specific Responsibilities:
* Serves as main point of contact for parents, pro-actively contacting parents of students who struggle with behavior or attendance requirements
* Oversee and "own" all support for academically at-risk students. This means proactively addressing attendance needs, ensuring their participation in office hours, and keeping close communication with parents where a child's academic standing is at-risk.
* Works with leadership team to align positive culture incentives with MESA behavioral expectations and ensure consistency of implementation.
* Runs professional development sessions on school culture and implementation of "Love and Logic" model.
* Collaborate with leadership team to onboard and train teachers during Summer Institute
* Works closely with counseling team to identify and support students who need extra attention
* Implements discipline policy on day-to-day basis, including following MESA procedure for notification and administration of consequences.
* Conducts student observations and/or Functional Behavior Analyses for students who have persistent behavioral issues
* Develops behavior plans for those students who require such plans
* Administers detention or other consequences
* Notifies parents in the event of student absence and or low-level disciplinary issues
* Conducts home visits, as needed
* Other duties, as directed by the Principal
Qualifications:
(1) Minimum high school degree, Bachelors degree preferred; (2) Appropriate New York State Certification; (3) Minimum two years experience working in charter school or similar setting; (4) Demonstrated ability to work productively with staff and with diverse populations of students, parents, and families, including students with disabilities or students with limited English proficiency; (5) Demonstrated understanding of issues facing children and youth, especially in urban environments;
(6) Belief in and alignment with MESA's core values, educational philosophy and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; (7) Spanish, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic speakers a plus.
Salary
$60,000 - $100,000, based on experience
