Position: Activity Specialist
Program: Farragut Cornerstone
Location: 228 York Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
Salary: $17.00 per hour to $17.00 per hour
Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (school year) and up to 35 hours per week (Summer)
Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) is one of Brooklyn’s first and largest non‑sectarian social services agencies. Serving more than 20,000 individuals annually, BCS provides a diverse range of services including prevention of foster care placement, crisis intervention, early childhood and after‑school education, vocational training, job placement, and clinical services to adults with physical and developmental disabilities and histories of mental illness. Cornerstone Programs offer academic, art, and recreational opportunities to children, teens, and adults in NYCHA community centers located in Brownsville, Fort Greene, and Coney Island.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Site Director and Assistant Director/On‑site Supervisor to provide activities for children, youth, adults, and seniors.
- Implement multi‑sensory lessons and activities that are academically stimulating.
- Plan and prepare activities and materials for the daily schedule.
- Supervise groups of children during classroom activities, snack time, recreation, and field trips; supervise middle/high school participants during evening and weekend hours.
- Maintain daily attendance records.
- Assist with developing and planning community events for children, parents, and the community.
- Monitor authorized parental/guardian drop‑off and pick‑up of children following all health and safety protocols.
- Outreach to parents and the community to promote the program, activities, and upcoming events.
- Attend and comply with training requirements, including all health and safety protocols.
- Complete other responsibilities as requested by the site director.
- High School Diploma required.
- Some college education preferred.
- Background in sports, music, drama, dance, photography, crafts, sewing, or the arts is a plus.
- Must enjoy working with children and be able to pass a background check.
- Must undergo pre‑employment screenings, including the Criminal Background Check required by OCFS/DOH.
