Job Summary:
The Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Clinical Advisory Dean, Professor (HS).
The Clinical Advisory Dean (CAD) serves as a dedicated mentor and advisor to approximately 15 third-year and 15 fourth-year medical students annually. CADs guide students through key academic and career milestones during their clinical years, providing one-on-one support and expert advice.

Academic review, career strategy, and MSPE preparation

- Provide structured advising on the residency application process
- CADs also attend two-to-three annual meetings with Career Services and fellow CADs, and are expected to consult with Career Services about student concerns. All scheduling is centrally managed, but CADs must offer availability during daytime and early evening hours. This role is in addition to current clinical/academic duties unless otherwise adjusted by departmental leadership. Flexibility from students and Career Services will support the integration of these responsibilities.
- Idea candidates are dynamic educators with exceptional communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, academic leadership, and scholarly achievement.
- Lead the department's Grand Rounds - present clinical cases, research updates, or specialty topics to faculty, trainees, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Teach residents, fellows, and medical students.
- Provide structured didactics, clinical teaching, and mentorship across training levels.
- Supervise residents responding to psychiatric consults in medical and surgical units, ensuring timely evaluation and management.
- Participate in departmental research initiatives or lead independent projects.
- Design and conducting studies, collaborating with institutional partners on grant-funded projects, submitting abstracts and manuscripts.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor Degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree.
- Distinguished record of scholarship, and be an accomplished teacher or passionate mentor in the field of medicine.
