Brief
Description:
The Early Childhood Head Teacher is a full-time, ten-month position who will work in conjunction with the Head of Early Childhood Programs, the Early Childhood Teaching Team, the Learning Support Team, the Assistant Head of School, and the Head of School.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Lead the teaching team by modeling best practices, fostering collaboration, and delegating responsibilities
- Provide students with high fidelity Montessori instruction and a high standard of care, prioritizing each student’s well being and safety
- Connect and build genuine relationships with students to foster trust and engagement
- Provide leadership and guidance in the day-to-day functioning of the classroom in collaboration with the Associate/Assistant Teacher(s) and Head of Early Childhood Programs
- Plan and teach curriculum for the classroom in accordance with the BHMS mission, the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices, the curriculum, and BHMS policies.
- Develop, review, and update curriculum and extensions in collaboration with the Early Childhood team
- Design and maintain a prepared classroom environment
- Facilitate the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of each child
- Maintain student record-keeping and update student observations and records in Transparent Classroom
- Record daily attendance
- Build relationships and partner with families
- Write and send Classroom Updates in Transparent Classroom to families
- Prepare reports for parents and other schools in accordance with the established policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School
- Prepare for and lead parent-teacher conferences as set forth on the school calendar, in partnership with the Associate/Assistant Teacher
- Actively participate in scheduled program level and faculty and staff meetings
- Attend and participate in various evening meetings, such as Back-to-School Night Parent Education, as well as Community events
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students, parents, and other teachers and school personnel
- Prepare an annual statement of goals and objectives for professional development
- Seek and act on feedback
- Stay abreast of educational trends and developments
- Know and comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Head of School or the Head of Early Childhood or the Assistant Head of School
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of three years Montessori classroom teaching experience as a Lead teacher
- Montessori Early Childhood Credential
- Master’s Degree

The salary range is $84,300 -$86,300 (3 to 5 year range) commensurate with experience, qualifications and aligned with the school’s financial landscape.
