The Berkeley Carroll School is a Pre-K through grade 12 college-preparatory school of almost 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in New York City. The Lower School is seeking a full-time head teacher for the 2026-27 school year. Responsibilities will include the teaching of an inclusive curriculum while developing a strong classroom community of approximately 20 students. Additionally, the teacher in this role will mentor and collaborate with a full-time associate teacher. Candidates should be prepared to work with a team of committed and professional educators in a school that deeply values intellectual discovery, equitable practice, and genuine belonging.
Qualifications- A Master’s degree in Education
- Head teaching experience in a Lower School classroom setting
- Deep knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary students
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary pedagogy and use of evidence-based strategies
- Experience developing and adapting instructional materials and activities to support students with varying needs
- Ability to communicate positively between the school and families about student progress, strategies, and goals
- Ability to collaborate on interventions that address student needs, including implementation and support for positive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS)
- Facility with restorative practices, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), RULER, Responsive Classroom, and culturally responsive teaching
- Familiarity with science of reading and with DIELS assessments, and skill in teaching explicit, systematic, research-based core instructional curricula such as Fundations
- Familiarity with conceptually-based math curricula such as TERC, Contexts for Learning, and Bridges
- Skill in the creation of a safe and supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to experience a sense of belonging
- Skill in supporting students’ development of self-regulation and social-emotional skills
- Proficiency in using data to inform instruction and interventions, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure growth and success
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to equity and student success
- Ability to collaborate effectively and professionally with teachers, families, and support staff
- Experience mentoring early career Associate Teachers preferred

Salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be offered commensurate with experience and credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $70K - $95K. This full-time, in-person position begins August 2026.
