The Berkeley Carroll School is a Pre-K through grade 12 college-preparatory school of almost 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in New York City. Responsibilities- Teach 6th and 7th grade instrumental band classes, supporting students across a range of skill levels to develop tone production, technique, rhythm, small group, and ensemble playing.
- Direct Middle School Wind Ensemble: build and grow a wind ensemble in middle school.
- Direct Upper School Wind Ensemble: demonstrate strong expertise in wind ensemble repertoire, music theory, pep band literature, and effective music education pedagogy to successfully direct the Upper School wind ensemble.
- Assist in Jazz ensemble rehearsals and sectional work
- Assist with the maintenance and management of school-owned and rented woodwind instruments, and assist students with instrument care and minor adjustments.
- Promote an environment of belonging where students feel seen, heard and valued in the ensemble.
- Collaborate with members of the music department and performing arts department to ensure continuity in musical skills, expectations, and culture from middle to upper school.
- Performances:
Coordinating and collaborating with members of the music department to select repertoire, prepare students, and perform regularly scheduled performances as well as other community-facing events. - Curriculum Development: work with the music department to develop, review, and update music curriculum, syllabi, and learning outcomes.
- Participate actively in the life of the school, including faculty meetings, professional development, leading an advisory, and community events.
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or related field. An advanced degree in music would be advantageous.
- A minimum of five years of experience working with beginning to advanced middle and/or high school instrumental students.
- Proficiency in woodwind pedagogy (flute, clarinet, saxophone) and familiarity with brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba) and percussion.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- A collaborative spirit and growth mindset, with a commitment to DEIB practices in music education.
- Experience with music technology tools, such as notation software (Dorico, Sibelius, etc) is a benefit but not required.

Salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be offered commensurate with experience and credentials. The annual salary range for this position is $70K-$100K.
