The YMCA of Greater New York is here for all New Yorkers — to empower youth, improve health, and strengthen community. The Y serves a diverse population across 24 branches and is guided by the LEAP framework (Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Personal Growth). The Dodge YMCA seeks a Parent & Me Instructor to provide a safe, positive environment for children and opportunities for learning, interaction, and personal growth.

The Instructor will support academic enhancement and enrichment in Youth programs, preparing and delivering age-appropriate instruction and activities in physical, cultural, and enrichment areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants through appropriate supervision at all times.
  • Plan and implement meaningful, age-appropriate activities and events that are engaging and value-based.
  • Teach fundamentals of healthy living and fitness, building skill and confidence.
  • Coordinate and present a culminating performance at the end of the program cycle, if applicable.
  • Work cooperatively with professional staff, teachers, and other program or school staff.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces participant diversity.
  • Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation (sign-in/sign-out forms, attendance sheets, behavior and incident reports as appropriate).
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Collaborate with the Youth & Family Director to secure and maintain equipment and supplies for activities.
  • Communicate the YMCA’s core values and program goals to participants and caregivers.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians and caregivers through regular communication about strengths and growth areas.
  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for activities.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, meetings, and special events.
  • Adhere to all Department of Health, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards and regulations.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. College credits and formal education preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth, including planning activities in a group setting.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Access, Adobe Page Maker, and Photoshop preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and ability to work with diverse youth and adults.
