Responsibilities- Practices within the scope of delineated privileges.
- Provide direct care to individuals and families consistent with the philosophy of Lutheran Medical Center and departmental/institutional goals, including safety, well-being of patients and visitors, and maintenance of patient rights and confidentiality.
- Provide diagnostic and assessment services to patients with a problem-solving approach: obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations, consider patient age and development, write appropriate orders (including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressants after consulting with a physician), implement therapeutic regimes or protocols, monitor patient response, notify the attending physician of changes, and consult specialists as needed.
- Document all patient encounters, including assessment and progress notes, treatment rendered, patient teaching, follow-up, and referrals.
- Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and reimbursement, including discharge summaries.
- Evaluate and manage critical care patients.
- Perform emergency life-saving procedures in the absence of a physician.
- Participate in rounds with the attending staff and house staff on assigned patients.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and families during admissions, care, and discharge.
- Provide preventive health services including counseling and teaching in health maintenance and problem-related areas.
- Participate in quality improvement activities as needed and serve on appropriate committees.
- Attend all scheduled departmental meetings and conferences.
- Be on call during non-working hours to assist attendings in urgent or emergent situations/procedures.
- Direct, instruct, and evaluate activities of P.A.s and medical students as appropriate.
- Participate in activities fostering professional growth and maintenance of certification.
To qualify you must have a bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. 0-1 years of relevant experience. Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York. BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and NALS per delineation of privileges. DEA certificate required.
Required Licenses: NYS Physician Assistant license, National Certifying Examination for Physician Assistants
