Senior Physician Assistant - Interventional Cardiology (Electrophysiology)
The Senior Physician Assistant in Interventional Cardiology will provide care for patients in the Department and in subspecialties as needed. The PA will follow established standards, procedures, and practices and give patient care directions to nursing and other staff.
Responsibilities- Practices within the scope of delineated privileges.
- Provide diagnostic and assessment services to patients in the Department of Medicine using a problem-solving approach:
- Obtain a detailed history and perform physical examinations on patients in the Department of Medicine and/or on assigned patients.
- Consider the age, growth, and developmental stage of the patient when assessment, treatment, or care is rendered.
- Write appropriate orders, including those for narcotics, stimulants, and depressant drugs after consulting with a physician.
- Implement a therapeutic regime or protocol appropriate for the diagnosis in accordance with institutional protocols and after consultation with the attending physician.
- Monitor the patient's response to the therapeutic regime.
- Notify the attending physician of changes in the patient's condition.
- Consult with specialists and/or a medical preceptor for complex patient care situations.
- Documentation of all patient encounters including:
- Patient assessment and progress notes
- Treatment rendered
- Patient teaching
- Follow-up
- Referral
- Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics necessary for administrative purposes and reimbursement, including discharge summaries.
- Evaluation and management of critical care patients.
- Perform emergency life-saving procedures in the absence of a physician.
- Participate in rounds with the attending staff and/or house staff on assigned patients.
- Collaboratively work with other healthcare professionals and families in the transitions of admissions, care, and discharge.
- Provide preventive health services including counseling and teaching in health maintenance.
- Participate in activities relating to Quality Improvement as needed.
- Participate in committees as appropriate.
- Attend all scheduled departmental meetings/conferences.
- Direct and instruct P.A. and medical students as appropriate.
- Lead departmental efforts to train other PAs in highly complex cases involving hemodynamic support (e.g., IABP, Impella, ECMO) and coach other PAs in developing techniques required to become independent first assists in cardiogenic shock and ECMO cases.
- Participate in activities fostering professional growth and maintenance of certification.
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Currently licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York. BLS and ACLS required upon hire. DEA certificate required. At least 5 years of experience in high-risk interventional cases as a first assist. Proven expertise and capacity to train other PAs in IABP, Impella, ECMO, and CTO.
Required Licenses: Physician Assistant Lic-NYS, National Certification, Basic Life Support Certificate
Preferred Qualifications10 years of critical care or interventional cardiology experience.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
