Overview
New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in association with Weill Cornell Medicine is seeking a Division Chief of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine (DOM). The Division currently has 3 attending physicians, and 4 voluntary faculty. We see outpatients in our new state-of-the-art space in the new CCH building that opened across the street from the main hospital. The candidate must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and have academic and leadership experience in education and/or research.
Candidates will be appointed as faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine at the Associate or Professor level, based on their experience.
The DOM is home to 102 full-time physicians in Cardiology, Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Medicine, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, and General Internal Medicine. In addition, there are 25 full-time ambulatory-based physicians and a large house staff training program with 111 residents. New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital is a 561-bed hospital that has been providing outstanding medical care to the surrounding communities for over 142 years.
Responsibilitiesas the Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases
- Participate in resident educational program consistent with the goals of the Residency Review Committee.
- Serve as a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of Infectious Diseases.
- Teach and supervise residents, staff and medical students, as well as other health care personnel in the theory and practice of the specialty.
- Develop clinical and/or basic research projects in related areas.
- Supervise residents on the inpatient service in conjunction with the Chief Medical Resident.
- Audit medical charts for quality assurance and appropriate utilization consistent with quality assurance and utilization.
- Develop and implement clinical pathways as appropriate.
- Participate in the on-call schedule for private and service patients.
- Serve on committees of the Department and Medical Staff.
- Participate in all areas of quality assurance and be an active participant in quality improvement activities, including SEC (safety event classification), RCA (root cause analysis), QPS (quality and patient safety) goals.
- Develop collaborative relationships with other departments, particularly Surgery and Obstetrics.
- Evolve the service into a regional force in Infectious Diseases in collaboration with the Division of Infectious Diseases at Weill Cornell Medicine.
- Support Hospital Epidemiology and Antibiotic Stewardship activities.
