Position: ENROLLMENT SPECIALIST

Overview

The Supportive Programs and Initiatives (SPI), Fair Fares program Division is a Mayoral initiative to subsidize NYCT fares designed to provide accessible discount for NYCT subways and eligible local bus service to low-income families who are in receipt of Cash Assistance, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, as well as New York City residents who are living at or below the federal poverty line.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the Enrollment Specialist Supervisor for Fair Fares. The Enrollment Specialist will be responsible for the enrollment of consumers at walk-in locations throughout the city. He/she will meet with the consumers, review all necessary documents, access the database, and gather all necessary information from the consumer while completing the enrollment and application process. Enrollment will also include scanning all documents into the database.

    The Enrollment Specialist will handle highly sensitive documents with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Answer questions and provide information about the discount and requirements for the program; review consumers’ documents for completeness; navigate the enrollment database; maintain equipment; and finalize consumers’ complete Fair Fare enrollment application packages.
  • Verify and enroll participant referrals daily:
    Walk-In, electronically and/or telephonically. Review consumer’s documents for completeness; ensure Fair Fares consumers have all necessary paperwork and documentation required to complete the application process. Authenticate documentation as official while maintaining confidentiality and discretion. Be required to undergo mandatory specialized training in how to review and authenticate official documentation.
  • Review the FF database throughout the day and ensure all program consents are signed. Navigate the enrollment database; scan all authenticated official documents into the database; enter all demographic and relevant consumer information necessary to process the completed application; ensure all information is entered accurately.
  • Finalize and submit the consumer’s complete Fair Fare application; review to ensure all necessary documents are obtained. Notify consumers of missing documentation and direct them to return the information per procedure. Inform consumers how to obtain official documents from local, state, and other sources as needed. Respond to consumer questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate communication around site-specific issues under direction from the supervisor; create, organize, schedule, and present information to community audiences via public speaking (information sessions and information tables), flyers, brochures, and other mediums. Facilitate communications at various locations throughout the five boroughs to support consumers in the enrollment process and provide adequate personnel coverage.

Monday – Friday; 9am - 5pm

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities related to duties described above; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.

    New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles may reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County after 2 continuous years. Discuss eligibility with the agency representative at the time of interview.
