Job Title:

Senior Accountant

Location: Brooklyn, NY (near Domino Park) – Onsite 4 days per week

Compensation: $120,000 – $140,000 base + bonus

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

About the Role

A rapidly growing, private equity–backed distributor is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their finance team. This role will be integral in managing day-to-day accounting operations, supervising junior team members, and supporting month-end close, reporting, and compliance functions. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of Big 4 experience, strong technical accounting skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities Team Supervision & Leadership
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff accountants and AP/AR clerks (including outsourced support).
  • Assign tasks, review work for accuracy, and provide performance feedback.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
Accounting Operations
  • Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger postings, and reconciliations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and internal controls are followed for all transactions.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
Month‑End / Year‑End Close & Reporting
  • Lead and support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements and coordinate with auditors.
Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and improve internal control procedures.
  • Assist in developing accounting policies to improve efficiency and mitigate risk.
Process Improvement & Systems
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance automation.
  • Collaborate with IT/finance teams to optimize ERP and accounting system functionality.
  • Support cross‑functional initiatives related to finance, operations, and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (Net Suite preferred).
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
