Pay range: $95,000 - $171,000.

At Roundel, the Data Collaborations (Cyclone) team is at the forefront of building scalable, high-performance data systems that enable meaningful collaboration between Target and our partners. We work on complex, real-world engineering challenges – from large-scale API and data integrations to cloud-native system design – using modern JVM and Big Data technologies. You’ll join a team that values technical excellence, innovation, and impact at scale.

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance APIs and backend services using JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) and Spring Boot.
• Build and optimize microservices architectures that enable scalable, reliable, and secure integrations with internal platforms and external partners.
• Engineer data exchange and integration layers to support large-scale collaboration and interoperability across systems.
• Leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including Big Query, for distributed data processing and analytics workloads.
• Implement API design standards, authentication/authorization protocols (OAuth2, JWT), and observability best practices (logging, tracing, metrics).
• Drive architecture reviews, ensuring adherence to performance, resiliency, and fault-tolerance standards.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code deployments to ensure consistent, repeatable builds.

• Advanced proficiency in JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) and frameworks such as Spring Boot or Micronaut.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, service orchestration, and event-driven architecture (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Experience designing scalable integrations with third-party and partner systems using secure APIs and message-based communication.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native design, microservices, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Hands‑on experience with GCP, including Big Query, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Storage.

• Expertise in performance tuning, fault tolerance, and system observability.
• Strong collaboration and documentation skills, with a focus on building robust, maintainable backend systems.

• 4‑year degree or equivalent experience

• 5+ years of software development experience

• Demonstrates strong domain‑specific knowledge regarding Target’s technology capabilities and key competitors’ products

• Working knowledge of package‑specific configuration and deployment

• Designs new testing methods and resolves routine and non‑routine technical issues with minimal assistance

• Demonstrates strong proficiency in core development platforms within own domain

• Builds strong commitment within the team to support the appropriate team priorities

• Clearly communicates Agile concepts to partners within product team

• Demonstrates a solid understanding of the impact of own work on the team and/or guests

• Writes and organizes code using multiple computer languages, including distributed programming and understanding different frameworks and paradigms

• Delivers high,, repeatable, and secure deliverables with broad impact (high throughput and low latency)

• Influences and applies data standards, policies, and procedures

• Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise

• Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self‑directed education

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex arrangement based on Target’s needs. Both onsite at the Target HQ in MN and virtual work will be required depending on daily responsibilities.
