Job Summary
At the Mass General Brigham Heart & Vascular Institute, our cardiology, cardiac surgery, and vascular care teams collaborate seamlessly to provide comprehensive, patient-centered heart and vascular care. Our cardiologists focus on diagnosing and managing heart conditions, our cardiac surgeons perform life-saving procedures like bypass surgery and valve repair, and our vascular specialists treat circulatory disorders affecting the arteries and veins, ensuring each patient receives a personalized, multidisciplinary approach for optimal heart and vascular health.
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of a population of patients being evaluated for or diagnosed with peripheral vascular disease, requiring medical and/or surgical management, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The Physician Assistant will function in a clinical care role in partnership with vascular & endovascular surgery clinicians and other key stakeholders.
The role is predominantly based out of Brigham & Women's Hospital (Boston) with time allocated to community-based Mass General Brigham Healthcare Centers located in Chestnut Hill and Foxborough.
Qualifications
Clinical Duties:
* Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to the peripheral vascular disease patient population primarily in the ambulatory setting, but may also require occasional work in the inpatient, operative, and procedural settings.
* Performs complete history and physical examinations.
* Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
* Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
* Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
* Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including consult notes, progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and admission/discharge summaries.
* Performs procedures as appropriate to the patient population, including but not limited to venous care and temporal artery biopsies.
* Participates in the Vascular Surgery Advanced Practice Provider of the Day urgent care coverage.
Communication:
* Clear and direct in verbal and written communication.
* Effective in facilitating group processes of decision-making for patients, caregivers, and staff.
* Is empathic and respectful.
* Is congruent with interpretation of plan of care to members of care team.
* Accepts responsibility for conflict resolution between patients, caregivers, and staff.
Professional Development:
* Engages in self-performance appraisal on a regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional growth and practice development.
* Identifies learning needs and goals on a regular basis and designs a plan to meet them.
* Maintains necessary clinical skills through continuing education and direct clinical practice.

* Collaborates with leadership in identification of current and future service needs and shares responsibility for meeting these needs.
* Maintains membership in one or more national peripheral vascular disease organizations.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:
* Participates in regular case review, data analysis, and quality improvement efforts.
* Participates in policy, procedure, and standards of care development, implementation, and review.
* Recommend changes in practice, as needed.
