Position: School Nurse - Part Time (20 Hours per Week & Benefits Eligible)

About the Park School

The Park School is a Pre‑K to Grade 8 independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The School Nurse reports to the Director of Health Services. This is a Part‑Time, benefits‑eligible, 10‑month position working two days a week from 8 am – 6 pm. Workdays are flexible and will be agreed upon with the Director of Health Services.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate clinical competency in school nursing practice and oversee the health care for students, providing first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services.
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor for nursing students, facilitating hands‑on learning experiences, supervising clinical practice, providing constructive feedback, and modeling professional standards of care.
  • Assess students’ health and refer students to urgent care or the emergency room, as necessary.
  • Be available to work in partnership with and communicate by phone and email with the Director of Health Services regarding student health concerns.
  • Maintain confidential records and other relevant health data.
  • Identify opportunities to coordinate with faculty on the student health curriculum.
  • Actively participate in the Faculty & Staff Health & Safety Committee.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to supplement knowledge and enhance the care delivered to students.
  • Provide first‑aid care and health assessment.
  • Coordinate care for acute or chronic health needs.
  • Administer daily scheduled medications for students and as‑needed medications for both students and staff.
  • Support ASP (after‑school program) health concerns and collaborate with the Athletics Director to minimize sports‑related injuries.
  • Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations
Qualifications
  • An active nursing license in MA must be current and maintained.
  • A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Awareness and appreciation of a culturally diverse community, including racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, language, and gender identity diversity.
  • Ability to maintain electronic medical records.
  • Current certification in CPR Adult/Child, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Certification from the National Board of Certification of School Nurses is valued.
  • Prior experience working in a school environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience in triage nursing is valued.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient or the ability to learn Google tools and other applications as adopted by the school.
Physical Requirements
  • Sit and stand uninterrupted for 30‑minute periods of time.
  • The ability to traverse on and across variable surfaces (e.g. level flooring, stairs, turf, gravel, asphalt, etc.).
  • The ability to position oneself (e.g., stand, sit, crouch, and kneel down) in order to support students.
  • The ability to lift and hold 15 lbs overhead.
  • The ability to occasionally transport (e.g., move or drag) 25 lbs.
  • The ability to maintain focus and composure in an energetic and, at times, loud environment.
  • The ability to deploy situational awareness to preserve the safety of students and community members.
  • Must have a valid driver's license to transport students across campus in emergency situations.
