This is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position located at the Southeast Research Farm in Beresford, SD. The Research Assistant supports research and operational activities, advances agronomic and horticultural research, assists with livestock projects during peak labor periods, and helps ensure research commitments are met and operations run smoothly.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities- Implement field trials assigned by SDSU faculty, including plot preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvest activities.
- Collect, record, and maintain accurate research data for agronomy and horticultural crop projects.
- Support ongoing horticultural crop research and assist in meeting research commitments at the Southeast Research Farm.
- Contribute to daily farm operations, including equipment use, field maintenance, and general operational support.
- Assist with livestock research projects during peak labor periods.
- Work collaboratively with farm staff to ensure efficient, timely completion of research and operational tasks.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or another related field.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Certified pesticide applicator license within 3 months of start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with field crop, horticulture, or greenhouse research.
- Experience with commercial crop or vegetable production.
- Experience operating farm equipment.
- Experience with equipment repair.
- Experience with GPS systems and developing electronic field maps.
- Experience with drip irrigation systems.
