PURPOSE

Keeping within the law, board policies, and administrative rules, the primary responsibility of the teacher is in the instruction of students. Instruction refers to the teaching/learning process that includes student guidance and management, as well as a demonstration of skills and knowledge in subject area(s) to be taught. When required, the teacher will also contribute to total school planning in the areas of budgeting, curriculum, and evaluating programs.
The teacher builds appropriate relationships with students that foster a safe and supportive learning environment. The teacher provides the opportunity for each student to meet the state standards through sound instructional and assessment practices aligned with the vision of the Brookings-Harbor School District. The teacher provides opportunities for each student to develop socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Provide for the health, welfare, and safety of all children.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District's Mission.
  • Provides a variety of classroom techniques and methods.
  • Promotes high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities.
  • Uses techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
  • Organizes instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.

  • Establishes written grading standards that are clear and incorporate a variety of graded activities.
  • Ensures that grading standards are explained and available to parents.
  • Develops and maintains positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Models personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy and consideration.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with students.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, and parents.
  • Shares appropriate information with parents and with other staff members.
  • Documents and provides documentation of students' progress.
  • Provides timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members.
