Incorporated in December 2012, the City of Brookhaven is the product of a community-driven effort to shape its own future, giving residents greater control over land-use, parks, public safety, and quality of life. The Parks and Recreation Department manages more than 300 acres of parkland, multiple recreation centers, athletic facilities, and natural areas that define the city’s identity and livability.
Overview– Assistant Director of Park Operations
The Assistant Director of Park Operations supports the Director of Parks and Recreation by overseeing all functions related to the planning, maintenance, and enhancement of parks, trails, and facilities. This is a senior leadership role with direct responsibility for operational excellence, project management, and resource allocation. This leader will guide a talented team in maintaining high-quality park facilities, managing contracts and capital projects, introducing best practices in sustainability, and aligning operations with the city’s long-term vision for parks and green infrastructure.
- Oversee the maintenance, rehabilitation, and expansion of park facilities and infrastructure.
- Manage capital improvement and construction projects, ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Introduce sustainable practices in landscaping, turf management, and trail maintenance.
- Develop operational budgets, manage contracts, and monitor expenditures responsibly.
- Foster strong relationships with contractors, volunteers, and partner organizations.
- Serve as a key advisor to the Director on policy, planning, and staff development.
The Assistant Director of Recreation Programming will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering those experiences. This position leads the planning, coordination, and supervision of recreation programs, events, and facility operations, ensuring that they align with Brookhaven’s high standards and community expectations. The Assistant Director will oversee a broad portfolio including aquatics, athletics, special events, cultural programs, and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
- Lead the city’s recreation and event programming across all facilities and age groups.
- Develop innovative programs that reflect community diversity and emerging trends.
- Strengthen partnerships with local organizations, nonprofits, and regional collaborators.
- Oversee recreation budgets, staffing, and resource allocation with fiscal responsibility.
- Support and mentor staff to deliver exceptional customer service and program quality.
- Ensure accessibility and inclusivity across all programs and facilities.
The hiring range for these positions is $95,000 - $115,000.
