Overview
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is seeking a Bed Assignment Coordinator. Coordinates the assignment of inpatient beds throughout the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta system. Uses medical terminology and communication skills along with knowledge base to coordinate and provide for timely and safe patient placement decisions. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

- Coordinates and obtains bed assignments for all internal patients (e.g., emergency department, post-anesthesia care unit, intensive care unit, patient care assistant) to ensure proper bed placement.
- Prioritizes admissions and transfers utilizing available beds.
- Ensures smooth process to reduce wait times and avoid unnecessary movement of patients.
- Recognizes all infectious patients and demonstrates knowledge of proper bed placement.
- Maintains assigned databases and updates hospital census using computer system and bed board, keeping all necessary information current.
- Assists Registered Nurse Patient Flow Coordinator with incoming physician phone calls, collection of demographic information, and other duties as required.
- Communicates in a courteous, prompt, and accurate fashion with all receiving units regarding expectant patients.
- Initiates and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
- Participates in the achievement of organizational and departmental goals.
- Experience in a healthcare business environment; 1 year of additional education or equivalent experience
- Experience in medical terminology
- Experience in an emergency or acute care setting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of employment
- Strong administrative skills, including typing 25 words per minute
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Superior customer service and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interface with all sorts of people and handle difficult situations
- Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment
