The MTSS Coordinator serves as the instructional and systems leader for the school’s Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. This role ensures that Tier 1 supports for all students, Tier 2 targeted interventions, Tier 3 intensive interventions, Section 504 processes, and Gifted & Talented services operate with fidelity, equity, compliance, and measurable impact.
The MTSS Coordinator acts as a liaison between teachers, school leaders, families, and support staff to ensure students receive high‑quality academic and behavioral support in an assets‑based learning environment.
Position SummaryThe MTSS Coordinator leads the design, implementation, and monitoring of school wide academic, behavioral, and enrichment supports. Responsibilities are organized into three core categories:
Data & Assessment- Provide strategic direction and planning for student support systems
- Develop sustainable structures that ensure Tier 1 excellence and effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Ensure services are delivered in an assets‑based, culturally responsive environment
- Build systems to coordinate services from school staff and external agencies
- Align MTSS work to PATH’s School Improvement Plan and student achievement goals
- Identify students requiring additional academic or behavioral support
- Maintain MTSS tracking systems and dashboards
- Monitor intervention effectiveness and adjust based on progress monitoring
- Lead child‑find processes for Section 504 eligibility
- Support gifted screening and eligibility documentation
- Prepare required compliance reports for administration and state requirements
- Tier 1 (Core Instruction)
- Support teachers in strengthening differentiated instruction
- Ensure evidence‑based instructional practices are implemented with fidelity
- Provide coaching and professional learning aligned to student data trends
- Establish clear intervention entry and exit criteria
- Coordinate targeted and intensive academic interventions
- Monitor dosage, fidelity, and student growth
- Formalize supports through Response to Intervention (RTI) structures
- Support Services Coordination
- Identify students most in need of additional support services
- Collaborate with teachers, leaders, and families to prioritize services
- Use attendance, discipline, and academic data to guide decisions
- Coordinate direct services or referrals to appropriate supports
- Respond to the direction of the School Leader regarding student priorities
- Student Behavior Intervention & Support
- Lead collaborative development of individualized behavior support plans
- Partner with teachers and families to track behaviors and monitor progress
- Provide in‑the‑moment behavioral support when needed
- Ensure behavior plans include measurable goals and reward systems
- Provide feedback to staff when intervention plans are not implemented with fidelity
- Adjust supports to ensure students remain on track toward long‑term success
- Response to Intervention (RTI) & SST
- Plan and facilitate RTI/SST meetings
- Ensure documentation of processes and parent communication
- Monitor intervention timelines and follow‑up actions
- Serve as liaison between General Education and Special Education
- Support eligibility processes for IDEA when necessary
- Oversee development and implementation of Section 504 plans
- Maintain accurate and compliant 504 documentation
- Conduct annual staff training on identification and accommodations
- Lead annual child‑find efforts
- Serve as primary contact for families seeking accommodations
- Professional Development & Coaching
- Support teachers in interpreting data and refining instructional strategies
- Model and co‑teach small group interventions
- Provide non‑evaluative classroom observations and feedback
- Foster a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement
- Family & Community Communication
- Conduct parent meetings related to intervention, 504, and gifted services
- Clearly communicate student goals and progress
