Assistant Controller and Cost Accountant Position Summary
The Assistant Controller is responsible for all aspects of corporate accounting and financial reporting. This role will work closely with the CFO and VP of Finance to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across the Company. This position will report directly to the VP of Finance.
Salary: $145,000-$155,000 plus bonus depending on experience
Location: Remote
The Role Accounting Operations Management and Financial Reporting- Oversee various accounting functions, including accounts payable, equity, accounting for payroll, general ledger, cost accounting and revenue recognition.
- Direct month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and distribute timely monthly consolidated financial statements and analytical review.
- Analyze variances and provide insights to improve financial performance.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts with the FP&A function.
- Manage submission of documentation to third party tax accountants for local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies.
- Strengthen internal controls to safeguard financial integrity.
- Direct annual external audit with outside CPA firm.
- Manage accounting team and ensure personnel are at appropriate levels to meet the requirements of their job.
- Work with Accounts Receivable department to ensure appropriate revenue recognition.
- Assist in establishing internal processes and documentation around accounting for inventory.
- Roll standard costs as necessary in Net Suite. Ensure all active Raw Materials, Work in Process items, and Finished Goods have accurate standard costs.
- Perform cost estimates for new products or potential changes to existing products, as required.
- Analyze for discrepancies in manufactured product costs, by reviewing the manufacturing variances and identifying any discrepancies in routings or bills of materials.
- Complete day-to-day control of the work order system, including analyzing and closing work orders in a timely manner. Must be familiar with work order costing concepts.
- Ensure integrity of standard costs and item attributes that impact costing or standard accounting flows. Must be familiar with absorption accounting and overhead rates.
- Analyze cost of sales and manufacturing variances and work closely with management to determine opportunities to maximize profit and minimize waste.
- Work closely with supply chain and inventory control to properly account for inventory process flows and transactions.
- Prepare monthly Yield, PPV, Reject and KPI Reporting.
- Assist in annual budget process with sales plan and standard cost rate development and reports.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of all Balance Sheet and Income Statement inventory accounts to sub-ledgers.
- Manage year-end inventory counts and reporting in conjunction with independent accounting firm audit.
- Involvement in monthly internal cycle counts.
