Registered Nurse; RISK Manager Quality Management Specialist

Position: Registered Nurse (RISK MANAGER QUALITY MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST)
The Bronx VA Medical Center is recruiting for (1) full-time Registered Nurse Risk Manager reporting to the Quality and Patient Safety service at the James J. Peters facility.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

The Risk Manager functions as a clinical expert and executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients. Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care.

Works on identification and reduction risk of injury associated with medical management of the patient, and assurance of compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements and standards. The Nurse Risk Manager is responsible for demonstrating leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the execution of risk management responsibilities. The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, addressing, preventing, and monitoring situations that could result in injury, liability, financial loss or regulatory noncompliance.

This is accomplished by demonstrating continuous quality improvement (CQI) techniques related to performance and improvement, clinical expertise, and knowledge of health care programs to enhance quality and improve safety of patient care.

The Risk Manager is responsible for the risk management activities, which include but may not be limited to conducting ongoing Proactive Risk Assessments with service leaders to identify clinical, process or operational gaps and lead in mitigating risks, auditing compliance with VHA Directives, the processing of tort claims, interfacing with Regional and General Counsel, administering the risk management program on a day to day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, managing the peer review program, complying with risk management related standards by the Joint Commission (TJC), Office of Inspector General (OIG), VA Central Office (VACO) and other accrediting and regulatory agencies, with the objective of promoting patient safety and quality care through collaborative strategies with others and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility.

Work Schedule:

Monday
- Friday 8:30am - 5pm.

Telework:
Not regular and reoccurring, subject to supervisor approval on an as needed basis in accordance with existing telework policies.
