Job Description

Under general supervision, participates in the maintenance of Park and Recreation equipment, components, and maintenance systems within the Parks and Recreation Department.

Location: 6000 Parks & Recreation
Pay Grade: A07
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive” and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs various department equipment and components.
  • Assists supervisors and crew leaders with routine park equipment maintenance duties such as blade sharpening, bearing replacement, chainsaw sharpening, tine replacement, deck adjustments, and sprayer calibration.
  • Inspects and maintains outdoor scoreboard units/components.
  • Inspects and maintains outdoor lightning prediction systems/components.
  • Inspects and maintains park fountain and pond aerating components.
  • Performs periodical inspections of parking lot and security lights.
  • Assists with maintenance and repair of water feature valves/components.
  • Assists with annual maintenance/repair of aquatic facility pumps/motors.
  • Operates equipment including, but not limited to, dump truck, skid steer, tractor, mower trencher, aerial lift truck, jon boat, etc.
  • Assists with warranty checks on athletic lighting systems.
  • Operates various power hand tools and small engine equipment including, but not limited to, chainsaws, paint machines, pumps, voltmeters, cordless drills, etc.
  • Participates in snow and ice removal duties.
  • Performs chemical applications as directed by supervisor.
  • Works under the supervision of the Lead Grounds Supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class D Oklahoma Driver’s License. Ability to obtain a Service Technicians Pesticide license issued by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.

Physical Requirements

Tasks involve the ability to exert exceptionally strong physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, and crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 150 pounds).

Retirement
  • The City offers a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan through the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund (OMRF). The City contributes 10% of the employees’ earnings into the plan. Employees become 20% vested after three years and vesting increases 20% for each additional year of service until 100% vesting is achieved at seven years. Employees may elect to contribute an additional amount.
  • The City also offers access to a 457 retirement plan, both traditional and Roth, through Mission Square Retirement.
