Under general supervision, collects and analyzes water samples to determine their physical, chemical, and bacteriological components. This position supports programs including Potable Water Quality, Pretreatment and Water Conservation with an emphasis on potable water.
* This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*
- Collects water samples in accordance with standard industry accepted water sampling practices.
- Maintains an inventory of lab supplies.
- Execute ODEQ and EPA approved sampling programs.
- Obtains, records, stores and provides City network access to all analytical data to ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and for future reference and for reporting purposes to ODEQ.
- Prepares reports, studies, memoranda and correspondence.
- Maintains a current knowledge of laboratory and analytical standards for water chemistry, bacteriology, water quality standards, EPA certified laboratory procedures and other related fields relevant to this position.
- Utilizes field test apparatus to analyze water samples.
- Investigates water quality complaints/concerns/issues raised and reports this information to the appropriate personnel for follow-up action.
- Contributes recommendations to the water quality programs for the City.
- Coordinates with customers on the handout of flyers and delivery and collection of sample bottles.
- Assist with performance of compliance inspections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain an ODEQ Class C Water Operator License and Class C Water Laboratory License within 6 months of employment is required.

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 25 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
