SUMMARYAdministers and directs functions related to the design, development and implementation of district programs and activities for students in the following programs;
Special Education and 504, to increase student achievement.
These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
- Through the coordinators of Special Education, oversees the development of special education plans and programs, program placement, staffing levels, professional development, all budgets, and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations relating to special education and 504.
- Develops and implements public relations for special services to include acting as a liaison agent or consultant in meetings with state and/or federal representatives, state and local project coordinators, universities and outside agency representatives relating to special education and special education services
- Collaborate with administrators in assessing district needs for special education programs and services and support the administrators in developing a greater understanding of existing programs and services
- Serve as a consultant in interviews of prospective applicants for special education positions and assist principals in validating the certification and/or highly qualified status of the applicants
- Evaluate Certified School Psychologists, Special Services Coordinators, and the Student Services Administrative Assistant
- Plans, develops, implements and assesses district curriculum and program changes at the elementary/secondary level designed to remediate and support students at all levels of proficiency.
- Analyzes state and district assessments and trend data to determine weaknesses in curriculum, instructional delivery and needs for professional development.
- Directs the vertical alignment of district learning objectives in all content areas. Recommends policies that support curriculum alignment and development.
- Continuously monitors and evaluates programs to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Maintain a CCOSA membership each school year.
- Assists with special projects.
- All other duties as assigned by the administrator.
Supervises Special Education Coordinators. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE- MA/MS degree in education-related discipline, preferably in curriculum and instruction.
- Valid Oklahoma teaching and administrative certificate.
- Four (4) years as a classroom teacher preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years as a school administrator.
- Special Education knowledge/experience required.
- Principal experience preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICALSKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
LICENSES and REGISTRATIONSCurrent driver's license in good standing.
OTHER SKILLS/EXPECTATIONSDevelops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; insures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.
