Key Accountabilities

The Facilities Maintenance Lead (FML) assists the Maintenance Manager, and coordinates maintenance activities during the absence of the MS. These activities may include the diagnosing, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of food processing and packaging equipment, and as required, the repair and maintenance of buildings, offices and grounds in a USDA production environment.

Responsibilities
  • Works with maintenance manager, maintenance supervisors, sanitation manager, production supervisor, and logistics management to repair facilities related problems. This includes, but is not limited to, changing light bulbs, plumbing, electrical throughout the facility.
  • Promote safety through all departments.
  • Training of employees for the safe operation of lifts.
  • Training of employees on safe welding techniques.
  • Assist in coaching and training of waste water technicians.
  • Filling in for waste water technician vacations of a week or longer.
  • Monitor activities of building contractors during schedule maintenance or repairs.

    Assist maintenance supervisor schedule contractors for the facility.
  • Must communicate openly and effectively across all groups.
  • Must be able to take direction.
  • Must be able to prioritize.
  • Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance and installation of machines, tools and equipment.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance on the equipment and issue work order to the maintenance personal.
  • Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Perform all work as assigned while adhering to established standards associated with Workmanship and safety.
  • Responsible for the safe and dependable operating condition of all equipment in the facility.
  • Set-up, troubleshoot and repair of high speed wrapping, check-weighing, cartoning, case packers, UPC bar coding, boxers, erectors and conveyor equipment.
  • Dismantling and re-assembly of equipment to perform repairs, cleaning and lubrication according to established maintenance schedules.
  • Testing, troubleshooting and repair of 110/230/460 volt electrical equipment including motors, starters, relays, timers, panels, breakers, conduit and wiring.
  • Able to read, interpret and use Electrical Control schematics for trouble shooting purposes.
  • Minor programming and troubleshooting of PLC’s.
  • Understands and adheres to established safety programs (ex/ lock out/tag out, ladder safety, etc).
  • Communicates effectively at all levels in the maintenance and operating departments.
  • Provides rapid response when equipment malfunctions or breaks down.
  • Ensures that all the equipment is ready prior to production.
  • Ensures the building is maintained in compliance to city and fire regulations.
  • Assists in coaching and training of maintenance and operating personnel.
  • Fabricates parts and modifies equipment as required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned or volunteered for.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Possess good language skills (verbal & written) to interpret procedures, comprehend instructions, and to communicate effectively with others.
  • Be self-motivated, a self-starter and self-directed to work without close supervision in a team environment.
  • Hard working, dependable, safety and quality conscious.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish (preferred although not necessary).
  • Must possess a high school degree, or equivalent.
  • Reading, writing and basic math skills required.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic experience in a food (USDA or FDA) manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Available to work any shift, as required, to support a 24/7 operation.
  • Work standing or walking for long periods of time.
  • Work bending and squatting.
  • Walk around the facility and be able lift a least 50 Lbs.
  • Proper and safe use of hand and power tools.
Work Environment
  • Refrigerated, Frozen, Office, and Waste Water areas.
  • Adjust to climate for outside work.
  • Food manufacturing, packaging and warehousing environment.
Food Safety/Quality
  • Report any issues regarding food safety or quality to supervision and/or quality assurance.
  • Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate attention.
