Per Diem (Days + Evenings) Position Summary
Provide technical assistance to the nursing staff and perform a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit.
- Receive and greet visitors, patients and staff. Respond to questions appropriately, referring items in question to authorized staff.
- Answer telephone promptly and in a courteous manner. Maintain positive communications with other departments. Make telephone calls to physician consults, other departments for assistancei.e. Information Systems), and inform physicians of admissions.
- Assist the staff by running errands, delivering specimens and paperwork, and checking mail.
- Keep nurses informed of incoming reports, new orders and other messages.
- Demonstrate awareness of patient’s rights to privacy and confidentiality.
- Transcribe physician and nursing orders accurately, neatly and timely. Place appropriate orders onto the nursing card.
- Assemble, label and organize the medical record admissions.
- Secure records from previous admissions as needed.
- Accurately enter orders into Epic.
- Fax medication orders to pharmacy. Note dangerous abbreviations and contact physicians for clarification. Note time called in margin of physician order sheet.
- Prepare chart for discharge and assure chart is complete. Compile all discharge paperwork.
- Enter discharges into computer.
- Notify administrative manager of unit activities such as changes in patient conditions.
- Accurately file test results in a timely manner.
- Copy documents as requested for unit personnel.
- Increase knowledge and use of hospital computer system as new programs are developed.
- Maintain and order clerical supplies for the unit as directed by nurse manager.
- Report broken equipment, enter work orders into Epic and call outside vendors regarding special equipment.
- Report to and begin work promptly.
- Give adequate notice of absenteeism or tardiness.
- Appearance is professional in accordance with the dress code.
- Ask appropriate questions within job description if an unfamiliar circumstance arises.
- Perform work of equal skills, effort, and responsibility as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. - Experience:
Minimum one-year working clerical experience needed. - Knowledge &
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Computer skills required. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Working in an outpatient setting is preferred.
$16.99- $25.24
