Job Description

The Mathematics Department at Massasoit Community College is looking for a full-time Mathematics Instructor to join its faculty. The department plays a crucial role at the college, helping students, many of whom come to the college with significant knowledge gaps and a fear of mathematics. To fill this role, department members serve as leaders and innovators, as well as outstanding educators.

Taking a data-driven approach, department members work collaboratively with others at the college to promote active learning and student responsibility. Members work to develop, implement, review, and support programs that increase student success while maintaining high expectations and standards. Members also work closely with faculty and educational leaders throughout Massachusetts to develop a shared vision of mathematics education. Math Department members coordinate the Mathematics Transfer Program and assess its effectiveness.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Teach a variety of full-time courses (15 credit hours per semester), including higher-level courses such as the Calculus sequence, as well as corequisite model courses.
  • Prepare respective course syllabi.
  • Design curricula that consider both course-specific and student learning outcomes, as well as General Education competencies, while tailoring the approach to the teaching modality of the course.
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week.
  • Develop appropriate discipline-related courses.
  • Serve on college committees as elected or appointed.
  • Attend program, department, division, all-college, and committee/council meetings.
  • Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.
  • Participate in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues, teach online as needed, and enhance classroom learning as appropriate.
  • Engage in professional development activities through participation in conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional associations to maintain excellence in the discipline and in the classroom.
  • Foster student success across the college's diverse student body, and address equity gaps, through innovative teaching and learning approaches as well as curriculum development.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and colleagues across the college and community to support an innovative and integrative curriculum and initiatives.
  • Actively participate in the general college community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Job Requirements
  • Master's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment.
  • Experience and understanding of High Impact Practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning.
  • The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Mathematics
  • Experience in community college teaching, advising, and curriculum development.
  • Experience with the corequisite model of math education
  • Demonstrated experience with online teaching.
  • Evidence of scholarly work in mathematics or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Canvas, Office 365, and familiarity with the Google suite.
  • Demonstrated experience working on committees and within teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing equity gaps.
  • Multilingual
Additional Information
  • Position Status: Full-time, state funded, benefited tenure-track Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) bargaining unit Faculty position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA Agreement.

    Start Date:

    Beginning of the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Salary: $58,722 - $72,871 annually, Salary is commensurate with education, experience and based on the MCCC Classification Study.
  • Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites as well as online courses.
