The part-time TRAIN grant Outreach Counselor reports to the Associate Dean of Community Education and will work closely with Community Education Division (CED) staff to provide advising and general support services for students participating in the TRAIN grant programs. They will provide academic and career advisement, conduct weekly check‑ins with assigned students to ensure they have needed resources and are successfully progressing through the program.
They will assist in completing administrative tasks (e.g., responding to calls, emails, walk‑ins). The TRAIN grant Part‑time Outreach Counselor will also assist with other CED programming as needed.
- Assists in conducting TRAIN grant student registration and orientation
- Provides counseling and general support services for assigned TRAIN grant students; refers student to appropriate support services and resources
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and college departments regarding needs and/or services for the TRAIN grant students
- Organizes regular/weekly/biweekly check‑in sessions to assist this population in adjusting to college life
- Conducts student surveys to determine student needs
- Conducts exit interview for withdrawal from TRAIN grant programming
- Assists with administrative tasks associated with department activities (e.g., prepares class materials, student surveys, reports, forms, and general correspondence)
- Receive and respond to inquiries via telephone, mail, email, and/or walk‑ins
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Allied Health; with two (2) years' experience and/or training involving career counseling, academic advising, and peer mentoring; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience in a higher education or workforce development environment with an understanding of barriers to higher education and/or training faced by some students
- Experience with grant‑funded or similar short‑term workforce development programs, including recruitment, assessment, support, and data collection
- Experience and collecting, tracking and updating data in Excel
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
Position Status: Part‑time, Non‑benefited Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) union position
Hours: Up to 18 hours/week (Not to exceed 936 hours annually), Monday-Friday, with occasional nights and weekends as needed
Salary: $36.55 hourly
Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
