Project Management, IT, Change & Transformation

Bristol

Reference: HH/RF-13793

I’m currently partnering with a well-established and growing software business operating within the insurance sector. The business is investing heavily in its cloud infrastructure and information security capabilities. As a result, they are looking to hire a Cloud Engineer to take ownership of their AWS environment in a newly created, standalone Dev Ops/Cloud position.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone senior enough to work independently, drive improvements, and take full responsibility for the design, security, optimisation, and ongoing management of the cloud estate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy and maintain secure, scalable AWS infrastructure
  • Manage core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS (Aurora MySQL), VPC and Lambda
  • Implement infrastructure automation and support CI/CD pipeline improvements
  • Monitor system performance using Cloud Watch and optimise resource utilisation and cost
  • Lead on IAM management and cloud security best practices
  • Support potential cloud‑to‑cloud or infrastructure migration initiatives
  • Develop dashboards and metrics to monitor performance and enterprise client requirements
  • Act as the primary cloud and Dev Ops specialist within the technology team
What They Are Looking For
  • 5+ years’ experience managing AWS cloud environments
  • Strong hands‑on AWS infrastructure knowledge with the ability to operate autonomously
  • Experience with automation and CI/CD (Azure Dev Ops knowledge beneficial)
  • Solid understanding of cloud security principles, ideally including exposure to CSA CCM and OWASP best practices
  • Experience working within Windows environments (IIS via AWS AMIs)
  • Database management and optimisation experience (Aurora RDS / MySQL preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Experience supporting or delivering cloud migration projects is highly desirable
  • Insurance or Insur Tech experience is advantageous but not essential

The role is based in central Bristol, with an expectation of three days per week in the office.
