Receptionist/Clerical Officer – Children's ED

The closing date is 23 January 2026

The post holder will work within the Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust and be responsible for providing a welcoming and efficient service as the patient first point of contact with the Emergency Department. This will include greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using the Care Flow EPR System and liaising with clinicians and colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely flow of patients through the department.

The post holder will be required to work 12‑hour shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays and to participate in a 24/7 roster.

The role is responsible for setting high standards of patient care by enacting the Trust's values at all times.

Main duties of the job
  • To register patients on the Careflow EPR clinical system
  • Updating patients' demographic details when required.
  • Issue Cas Cards for the Clinical staff for triaging patients
  • Answer reception telephone and deal with any queries
  • With discharged paperwork send out discharge letters to GP and Health Visitors.
  • Prep notes for scanning
  • Scan notes, upload to clinical system and quality check
  • Book appointments for plastics clinic and Consultant review clinics.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths
Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous receptionist experience in a healthcare or public setting
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Clerical/administration experience including filing and/or reception
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent/professional telephone/reception manner
  • Flexible approach to duties
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft packages
  • Confidence to handle difficulty conversations with patients, relatives and carers
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
