Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Advanced Systems Engineer (D&C)

Our Mission

At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The Valo, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.

We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals. Valo is targeting airliner-level safety certification in 2028 ahead of entering service with our airline and operator customers.

What

to expect

We are seeking a highly talented System Engineer with a data and communications background to participate in the design, development, verification and flight test support of the data system suite for an eVTOL platform. The ideal candidate will have a background in digital communications, IP networks and complex avionic systems (mission computers, touch screen displays, comms and data radio equipment and airborne sensors), along with hands‑on experience with safety protocols, regulatory standards and troubleshooting in a fast‑moving environment.

What

you'll do
  • Requirements Management: Develop and maintain requirements and their traceability matrices, ensuring all requirements are fully documented and tracked throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design and Development: Create and develop integrated avionic suite designs and ground stations including sensors, communication, recording and display systems
  • System Integration: Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure system compatibility and integration into the aircraft platform.
  • Verification and Validation: Plan and perform bench verification and validation activities to ensure systems meet user requirements, function as intended and are operating robustly.
  • Commissioning: Create comprehensive system commissioning plans and then run through them to demonstrate the fielded systems are operating correctly.
  • Flight Test Support: Provide on‑site support for set‑up, monitoring and troubleshooting of avionic data, communication and recording systems in a flight test environment.
  • Technological Advancement: Stay current with aerospace technological advancements and look to implement new technologies into avionics designs.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electronic and electrical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Avionics Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in avionic systems engineering (>2 years), with a background in electronics, IP networking, software, and aerospace systems. Prior work experience in a systems engineering role within an aerospace design and development organization.
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of ARP
    4761 and ARP
    4754.
  • Familiarity and hands on experience working with test and regulatory standards including DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, 14 CFR part 23 (EASA CS-23).
  • Experience with scripting languages (python preferred).
  • Experience with requirements management tools (JAMA preferred).
  • Experience and familiarity with Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems (3DX preferred)
  • Experience with Matlab tool suite, particularly System Composer and Simulink
