Overview

Clinical Fellow in Glaucoma at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) — Bristol Eye Hospital (BEH).

BEH is looking to grow its talented team to drive an ambitious future vision of care across Bristol and Weston. Main duties of the job

Candidates are expected to have extensive cataract surgical experience and be able to routinely perform phacoemulsification surgery unsupervised, as well as experience managing glaucoma cases. Applicants should be at Specialist Registrar/Trainee grade or equivalent and should have completed their higher surgical training in ophthalmology or be close to doing so. The successful candidate will be required to be registered with the General Medical Council with a Licence to Practice.

The BEH is a highly regarded Regional Centre for Ophthalmology which sits within the Division of Surgery at UHBW (recently rated Good by the CQC). BEH provides a tertiary referral glaucoma service. The Fellow would also be expected to participate in the workload of the department as needed. Glaucoma clinics are risk stratified and the Fellowship would provide opportunity to work in complex clinics with supervision and work with an experienced specialty optometry team.

Theatre time is dedicated and will be supervised.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience
  • Good knowledge of general ophthalmology, with basic specialist registrar training for ophthalmology and glaucoma (STR)
  • Ability to perform cataract surgery independently (minimum 400 cases)
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability and willingness to participate in teaching and training of junior doctors, nurses, medical students, optometrists and other allied health professionals
Qualifications and Training
  • Applicants should already have CCST (or equivalent) or be entering into their final year of Specialist training, Overseas applicants would normally be at the end of their local training scheme
  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Medical Council
