Kitchen Assistant

Overview

Stratos Galley is Air Balloon Hill Primary School's in-house catering service providing nutritious, high quality mid-day meals for children and staff compliant with the School Food Standards.

We have a vacancy for a Kitchen Assistant to join our team of hard-working and friendly staff. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced catering professional who is passionate about serving quality food to children and who is willing to work within an established and friendly team under the direction of the Kitchen Manager. Duties will include preparing fruit and vegetables and other food items, setting up the dining hall, serving the children and staff, washing up and cleaning of equipment and other tasks as directed by the Kitchen Manager.

Our kitchen often prepares and serves upwards of 500 meals per day so our new team member must be prepared to learn quickly and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.

• Prepare fruit and vegetables and other food items as directed.
• Set up the dining hall and serve children and staff.
• Wash up and clean equipment; undertake other tasks as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
• Work within a busy catering environment where meals are prepared from scratch using fresh ingredients.

• Experience in a busy catering environment; ability to work quickly and accurately.
• Passion for preparing and serving food to children and contributing to a positive meal time experience.
• Must hold a Level 2 certificate in Food Safety and Hygiene (training available if necessary).
• On-the-job training for safe use of kitchen equipment and awareness of allergens is mandatory and completed as required.
• Hours:
  
  20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10am – 2pm (term time only, including five staff training days).
• Salary: BG2 scale of £12.65 per hour.
• Uniform provided and must be worn correctly at all times.
• Position is initially fixed-term until 31 August 2027.
