Wyndhurst Farm milks 200 high yielding pedigree Holsteins through a 24-24 DeLaval herringbone, 3x a day, with night milking covered by agency milkers. Cows are currently yielding 40 litres daily, housed year round on sand cubicles. The herd currently runs at a 42% conception rate and a 29.9% pregnancy rate, with a breeding focus on longevity to complement productivity. Wyndhurst is part of the University of Bristol's School of Veterinary Sciences, serving primarily as a teaching facility for undergraduate veterinary students.

Research also plays an increasing role, with trials focusing on animal welfare and disease.

The day to day role would primarily involve:

• Integrating with the farm team to ensure the health, welfare and productivity of the herd.
• Participating in routine work with milking, feeding calves and yard work.
• Potential TMR feeding to relieve the Farm Manager when required. A rota would circulate routine jobs between the team to learn key elements of herd management/husbandry, without fixed positioning. A key business target is flexibility for staff to improve their quality of life.
• Involvement with twice-weekly veterinary routine visits.
• Data inputting for Uniform herd management software.
• Routine maintenance and keeping the farm to a high standard.

Direct teaching involvement is limited compared to a college environment. Milking practicals occur weekly through the winter as the primary teaching input from the farm team. With high student footfall, research involvement and veterinary students in attendance, being an approachable member of the farm team is a key learning opportunity for students.

• Drive and enthusiasm for livestock production and high welfare standards

• Strong communication skills and willingness to interact with vet students
• UK Driving Licence

The selected candidate will join the Velcourt Management Training Scheme
, a two-year programme in farm management with practical on-farm instruction, formal classroom-based tuition, and residential courses focused on personal development.

This role is not eligible for UK Visa Sponsorship. Successful applicants will need to have a pre-existing Right to Work in the UK to be offered an employment contract.
