6‑month secondment or fixed‑term part‑time position working Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 7:00 pm in the Gate 24 – Plastic Surgery Dressings Clinic and Outpatients. The department supports the timely discharge and ongoing wound management of post‑operative patients from the Plastic Surgery ward (33a). The role is part of the largest division at North Bristol NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a nurse‑led dressing clinic service, seeing simple and complex wounds using a variety of dressings.
- Assist and lead Plastic Surgery Outpatient Clinics alongside doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
- Co‑ordinate the department when required and support the provision of a high‑quality outpatient service.
- Work closely with surgeons, nurse specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, burns team, plastics trauma, gate 33a and dermatology to deliver patient care.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate patient care autonomously and by following Trust policies and the NMC code of conduct.
- Supervise and mentor health‑care assistants, students and other staff, providing guidance and safeguarding a good learning environment.
- Carry out emergency care and support junior staff during emergencies according to Trust policy.
- Ensure safe medication handling, inventory of supplies and disposal of hazardous substances.
- Report and document incidents, complaints and broken equipment in line with Trust procedures.
- Assist with outpatient discharge planning and admission, assessment and preparation of patients undergoing treatment or investigations.
- Strong clinical knowledge of wound care, dressing techniques, and advanced dressing technologies.
- Evidence of teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Advanced communication skills with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in electronic health records and information systems such as EDMS or Careflow.
- Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, with ability to prioritise a fast‑paced workload.
- Knowledge of manual handling, health and safety, infection control and Trust policy.
- Unpredictable daily workload, with occasional weekend or evening work.
- Primarily standing and walking; manual handling of patients and equipment required.
- Exposure to blood and bodily fluids on all shifts.
- Managing difficult or aggressive patients in high‑pressure situations.
- Use of computer screens for documentation and communication.
