Practice Nurse (24 hours a week flexible within the nurse rota)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic nurse to join our supportive team, working part time 24hrs a week flexible within our nurse rota. We welcome applications 2 yrs. post-graduation looking to pursue and develop a career in practice nursing.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Practice Nurse who will be involved in several clinical area’s such as chronic disease management, health promotion, a range of treatment room skills including wound management, vaccinations and immunisations as well as supporting the practice management team in reviewing and delivery of clinical procedures and policies.

The team at Severn View Family Practice is warm, welcoming, loyal, and supportive. We are a teaching practice and welcome GP Trainees, GP retainers, Foundation Dr’s, Medical Students, and Nurse Students, as well as prescribing paramedics and pharmacists, over the course of the year.

We are a forward-thinking practice, taking an active part in driving innovation in close collaboration with our neighbouring four practices, as the Severn vale PCN.

  • 2 Advanced Clinical Practitioners
  • Pharmacy hub within our PCN
  • Physiotherapist, Social Prescribers collaborate with Clinicians.

The successful candidate will value family medicine, continuity of care and proactive development, and work well within a team. Candidates should be registered with the NMC and need to be able to work effectively within a busy team as well as independently and have excellent communication skills.

Job responsibilities

Key Areas of Responsibility:
To provide the full range of nursing services including:

  • Wound care management (including dopplers and compression bandaging, in line with current evidence-based guidelines and suture removal)
  • Routine immunisations and vaccinations given under a Patient Group Direction (with additional paediatric vaccination certification an advantage)
  • Cervical Screening
  • Contraceptive pill checks / sexual health
  • Undertake long term condition reviews with appropriate training (e.g. Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, CKD, Hypertension)
  • To deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice and risk assessments to patients prior to travel including illnesses, vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Provide emergency care to patients as necessary and attend annual Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis training.
  • To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.)
  • To support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies
  • To understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately

Additionally, the candidate should be able to

  • Undertake the collection, storage, and dispatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used, as per policy.
