Head of Department - Private Client

Our client is seeking a Solicitor or Legal Executive with over 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) to lead their Private Client department. This role is ideal for a candidate with comprehensive experience in leadership and management within a legal setting, aiming to drive success and maintain high standards of compliance and efficiency.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage the daily operations of the department, including monitoring and distribution of matters.
  • Supervise the fee-earning work undertaken by junior members of the team.
  • Manage support services for the team, ensuring all members have the resources they need to perform effectively.
  • Ensure that fee earners meet their individual targets and maintain orderly and up-to-date files, including electronic files.
  • Adhere to the company's policies on file management and complete time recording and other management records as required.
  • Facilitate cross-referral of work and clients within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's policies, including Lexcel compliance.
  • Manage the financial aspects of the department, including cash flow through efficient billing and payment procedures.
  • Identify and develop fee-earning opportunities and lead the department's marketing and business development efforts.

Required Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive with a minimum of 4 years PQE.
  • Proven experience in managing a Private Client department or similar.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in managing departmental budgets.
  • Commitment to compliance with all legal standards and company policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering strong client relationships.
