Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Location: Avonmouth, Bristol
Play a key role in maintaining live fire‑training environments. At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us you can play your part as a Maintenance Technician at Severn Park Fire & Rescue, near Avonmouth, supporting frontline emergency‑services training.
The roleAs a Maintenance Technician you’ll join a highly skilled, hands‑on technical team responsible for maintaining, repairing and preparing specialist fire‑training buildings, rigs, breathing apparatus equipment and operational training environments. This work ensures crews can train safely and effectively, 365 days a year. It’s a uniquely practical and varied role where no two days look the same—you work directly to support public‑safety training.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include:
- Carry out hands‑on maintenance, repairs and decorating to keep training buildings and facilities safe, clean and operational.
- Prepare, maintain and inspect fire‑training equipment, breathing apparatus, rigs and training areas to ensure operational readiness.
- Complete routine checks, planned maintenance tasks, defect logging and updates through the planned maintenance system.
- Maintain safety and compliance by working to SOPs, HS&E standards, risk assessments and ISO documentation requirements.
- Support wider site operations including vehicle movements (LGV/forklift), stock management and maintaining tidy, functional facilities.
This is a full‑time onsite role, working 37 hours per week on a 4‑day on / 4‑day off rota across an 8‑day period, including weekends, from 07:00 to 17:30.
Essential experience- Practical maintenance experience, including repairs, equipment care, decorating and facility upkeep.
- Understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental safe systems of work, including SOPs and compliance processes.
- Ability to work in a physically active environment, carrying out manual tasks safely.
- IT literacy, including use of maintenance systems and Microsoft Office for reporting.
- Experience handling or maintaining specialist or safety‑critical equipment (e.g., BA equipment) is desirable.

Security ClearanceThe successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
